Fort Laramie, WY - Cemetery

At Fort Laramie, Wyoming, the original pre-1867 post cemetery and probably also the site of the fur trade period cemetery sat on the hill where the military hospital was built in 1868. Later, in 1873, the post hospital was built over the site of the old cemetery, and no evidence has been found that the graves were relocated. Decades later, remains of bodies were found during an excavation, but were back filled. These three graves are located near the hospital. Are they the graves of other bodies found or do they simply commemorate those unknown soldiers? The remains of those soldiers buried at the fort's post-1867 cemetery were relocated to Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Nebraska in 1891.
