Baxter Springs, KS - Rainbow Bridge

This old (1923) concrete Marsh Arch-style Rainbow Bridge over Brush Creek in Baxter Springs, Kansas, looks nondescript but is kind of famous. It's the only one of its kind left on U.S. Route 66, a mostly two-lane road from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, that was so popular that it was called The Mother Road. The little bridge has become the principal landmark in the ever-so-brief (just 11-mile) segment of the highway that's in Kansas. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
