The southern U.S. state of Arkansas is well known for its wooded Ozark Mountains. But not for standalone ridges and pillars of rock formations such this array to the east of the Ozarks, on private property near the town of Concord. The owners are proud to own the land on which these natural wonders are located but do not promote them, fearing that tourists or amateur geologists would bang on their door, asking to tour them. Or worse yet, that thoughtless and selfish vandals and graffiti “artists” would deface them. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2020.
