Ben Murrell Foster was born on March 10, 1905 in Grimes County, Texas. He was the son of Jessie Hugh and Martha Belle "Mattie" Black Foster. At the age of 5, he lived in Grimes, Texas; at 15, he lived in Johnson, Texas, and somewhere along the way, he made his way to Hutchinson County, Texas, where he met and married Thava Irene Womble.
