In 1877, the mining operations in Bodie, California were bought out by the Standard Mining Company and within months, the partners discovered a significant vein of rich gold ore. We made this visit to Bodie many years ago, it's visit has left an everlasting impression on me ever since. I felt as though I might have stepped back in time and had a true glimpse of the hardships, and true grit these people demonstrated to endure their environment. I am in awe and can't begin to comprehend how challenging it must have been spiritually, physically, psychologically, it was for it's inhabitants. If you visit, please be very respectful to this site. Many suffered, worked, and died here.
