Furnace Creek, CA - Furnace Creek Ranch Old Dinah - 2

Familiarly called "Old Dinah", this steam tractor was used to replace the horse wagon trains that carried supplies and crude oil the 26 miles from Beatty, Nevada to the Keane Wonder Mine in Death Valley, California. However, the tractor only made one run in 1909 before the boiler exploded enroute. It was then abandoned ont he trail. Today it stands on display at the Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley National Park, California. Photo by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
