The two-story red brick Rex Theater at 519 Court Street was built in 1920. It originally had two small shops on either side of the entrance to the theater lobby. The main floor and balcony originally seated 800 people in front of a live stage, movable picture screen, and orchestra pit. The four original windows on the second floor were removed and bricked in, probably during a renovation in 1949. In 1974, the Rex changed hands, and the original awning and the 1940s marquis were replaced with a large cedar shingle awning and the entrance was remodeled to enclose the lobby to the sidewalk. The building was restored in 2018. Now, there are 300 seats in the main auditorium, and 100 seats in the balcony. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in October, 2020. Photo by
