Corinth, MS - Contraband Camp

Corinth Contraband Camp - This is the site of the model camp established for runaway slaves. As many as 6,000 people were thought to have resided here at its peak. As Federal forces occupied major portions of the South, enslaved people escaped from farms and plantations and fled to safety behind Union lines. Photo by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
