Fort Bowie, AZ - Bascom-Cochise Meeting Site

Fort Bowie, Arizona. On February 4, 1861, 2nd Lieutenant George Bascom, and his detachment of 43 men encamped in Apache Pass. Bascom's mission was to find Chiricahua Apache Chief Cochise, recover a kidnapped white boy, and return livestock that had been stolen by Apache raiders. The meeting did not go well, causing Cochise to being a rampage that would last for more than a decade. The meeting and its results are now known as the Bascom Affair.
