Part of Fort Ligonier in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. The site was a British fortification from the French and Indian War of the mid-1700s, prior to American independence. During its eight years of its existence as a garrison, Fort Ligonier was never taken by an enemy. During Pontiac's War of 1763, it was a vital link in the British communication and supply lines. The fort was attacked twice and besieged by the Native Americans prior to the decisive victory at Bushy Run in August of that year. The fortification was decommissioned from active service in 1766. Now reconstructed, it serves as a living-history museum. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2019.
