The onetime band barracks at the old U.S. Cavalry post at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia -- now part of the larger town of the same name -- near the Chickamauga Battlefield site from the U.S. Civil War. Fort Oglethorpe opened in 1902 as Fort Hargrove, named for a Confederate soldier, William Hamilton Hargrave, who, along with his wife Amelia Cecilia Strange-Hargrave, owned most of the land in the area. It was later named Fort Oglethorpe after James Oglethorpe, the founder of the Colony of Georgia. The post was a principal training site for the Women's Army Corps during World War II.
