Milledgeville, GA - Old Capitol Museum

The Old Capitol Museum in Milledgeville, the capital city of Georgia from 1804 to 1868, notably during the American Civil War. Georgia's Secession Convention in early 1861 was held in the building, and a vote for secession carried on January 19, 1861. The Old Capitol building was damaged but was left standing during the Civil War. In 1868, during Reconstruction, the legislature moved the capital to Atlanta. The statehouse was used as the court house for Baldwin County, then by what became Georgia Military College. The building remains at the center of the college campus and is open for tours.
