Marquee of SCAD's Trustees Theatre in downtown Savannah,
Georgia. "SCAD" is not a family name or slang term. It's an acronym for the Savannah College of Art and Design. Trustees Theater opened in 1946 as a part of Savannah's grand theater district. Designed by Howell and Tucker as the Weis Theater -- pronounced Wise after the family that built it -- it was purchased and renovated by the Savannah College of Art and Design. The theater operates year-round as a venue for lectures, live performances, concerts, and films. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2017.
