The Fort Sherman Chapel, the oldest church in Coeur d'Alene, the principal city of the northern panhandle of Idaho, not far from the Canadian border. The city's name, belonging first to an indigenous tribe in the area, translates to "Heart of the Awl" — a pointed tool used for piercing leather — a name given to the tribe by French trappers in recognition of their trading acumen.
