The United States Custom House at 14th and Washington in Cairo, Illinoiswas built between 1869-72. Cairo was made a port of delivery by an act of Congress in 1854 but was never a port of entry. Today, the building houses a museum which houses one of the greatest volunteer driven museum collections in the state of Illinois. Much of the content chronicles the colorful history of Cairo and the region. Photo by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
