The Spivey Building at 407 Missouri Avenue in East St. Louis, Illinois was built in 1927. It was named after Allen Spivey, owner of the East St. Louis Journal newspaper. The six-story structure served as an office building and as the site of the old State Community College. The last tenant moved out in 1980 and it has been abandoned ever since. It sits on a 1929-1937 alignment of Route 66 and the 1933-1961 alignment of Route 66 runs just a few blocks away. Though it was listed on the Nation register in 2002, the building is in eminent danger of being demolished today. It is now owned by St. Clair County, who took it over for back taxes. In recent years, bricks and other debris have been falling from the building during times of high wind and rain. As of 2019, it is slated to be demolished as soon as possible.
