Abilene, KS - Great Plains Theatre

Church turned theater in Abilene, Kansas. Built in 1882, this Gothic Romanesque limestone building served as the First Presbyterian Church for 132 years before a new church was built. Later the building was sold and taken over by the Great Plains Theater. Unfortunately, in July, 2014, the building was struck by lightening and was left in ruins by a blazing fire. Only the limestone blocks remained when the fire was finally put out. Two months later, the shell of the building was removed. The theatre staff and members have found another location in Abilene for their new home. Photo by Kathy Alexander.
