Artist William Counter created this enormous mural depicting "Wild Bill" Hickock in 2018 in Abilene, Kansas. Hickock, the legendary sheriff of the wild-and-woolly town at the northern end of the Chisholm Trail cattle path from Texas in the 1870s, became a national folk hero for his exploits as a lawman, frontier soldier, scout, gambler, showman, and actor, and gunfighter.
