The Fort Gratiot Light Station, a lighthouse with keepers’ quarters and other auxilliary buildings in Port Huron, a city at the southern end of Lake Huron at the easternmost point of land in Michigan, within sight of Sarnia, Ontario, in Canada. The lightouse itself is the oldest in Michigan, and second-oldest on the Great Lakes. (The oldest is the 1822 Marblehead Light in Ohio.) The Fort Gratiot light’s tower was erected in 1829 to guide mariners between Lake Huron and the St. Clair River. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2019.
