In 1863, Phillip Best's Son-In-Law Frederick Pabst, a steamboat captain, bought a share in Phillip Best Brewing. The company began bottling in 1875 under the name Best Select, and by that time it was the nations second largest brewer. Captain Pabst also took over as President of the company.
