In the Shady Grove Cemetery on the eastern side of Iuka, Mississippi are buried 263 unknown Confederate soldiers who died in the Battle of Iuka. These valiant men. under the command of Confederate General Sterling Price, are buried in a mass grave. The mass grave was once marked by a monument and an enclosing wall. Today, there are a few tombstones bordered by a black iron rail fence, surrounded by citizen burials in the cemetery. Photo by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
