Scene at Historic Fort Snelling, a historic military fort on Dakota homeland, known as Bdote, with history spanning 10,000 years, in St. Paul, the capital city of Minnesota. Originally known as Fort Saint Anthony, the fortification helped protect U.S. northwestern territories from Canadian and British encroachment in the early 1800s. The fort, part of a National Park Service unit, is unrelated to the nearby Fort Snelling State Park, a scenic park loaded with hiking trails, with which it is often confused.
