Abandoned since 1975, Syracuse, New York's Central High School still sits empty (as of 2018). Designed by the prolific Syracuse architect Archimedes Russell, the school opened in 1903 and served the city well for 72 years until it was replaced by Fowler High School a little more than a mile away. A privately financed renovation begun in 1984 collapsed, as did 2008 plans by the city to turn the building into a technical schoo when the projected price tag hit $58 million.
