Cortland, NY - Victorian Chateauesque Wickwire Mansion

The 30-room Victorian Chateauesque style home of Chester Wickwire is now (in 2018) the 1890 House Museum & Center for Victorian Arts in Cortland, New York. The Victorian era during which Wickwire lived is known for its ornate wire plant stands, garden furniture, screens on windows, and other uses of wire that became popular during that time. Ironically given his name, Wickwire played a major role in the manufacture of that wire and made a fortune doing so. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2018.
