Equestrian statue of Civil War general and Union hero Philip Sheridan, before the New York Capitol in Albany. So complex was work on the massive, elegant building, including its five-foot-wide, load-bearing granite walls, took 32 years and three separate architects, including Henry Hobson Richardson, before it was declared complete in 1899.
