Part of Pathfinder Reservoir, created by the Pathfinder Dam, a masonry dam on the North Platte River, southwest of Casper in Natrona County, Wyoming. The dam was originally constructed between 1905 and 1909 as part of the North Platte Project and has been modified several times sinc. The Pathfinder Reservoir it created provides water storage for 226,000 acres of irrigation in Wyoming and Nebraska, as well as recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The dam is named for General John Charles Fremont, who was nicknamed the "Pathfinder of the West" after exploring the area in 1842. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2016.
