The G.A.R. Memorial Hall, built in 1894, is now an American Civil War museum in Nebraska City,
Nebraska. In the late-19th and early-20th centuries, the G.A.R. — full name Grand Army of the Republic — was a powerful fraternal organization of former Union soldiers and sailors who fought in that war. Many of the marches of hundreds or more Civil War veterans marching in formation were organized by and composed of G.A.R. veterans. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
