The former passenger-train station in Laconia, New Hampshire. Designed by Bradford Gilbert, it was built in 1892 for the Concord, Boston & Montreal Railroad and is a prominent regional example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. The building now (2017) houses a variety of commercial businesses. The Boston & Maine Railroad took over the building in 1895 and operated it until 1958, when highways made train travel a thing of the past. The city then bought the train station, operating it as such until 1965, when the last Boston & Maine passenger train pulled into Laconia. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2017.
