Both the old Dog House Drive In restaurant and its clever neon — whose wiener dog's, or dachshund's, tail wags brightly up and down after dark — are longstanding institutions along historic U.S. Route 66 — the old "Mother Road" from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, which still runs not only through Albuequerque but also right past the restaurant. Bun elsewhere in town, the Dog House has (as of 2021) been in business at this location since 1969. Photo by Carol Highsmith 2020.
