Both the old Dog House Drive In restaurant and its clever neon — whose wiener dog's, or dachshund's, tail wags brightly up and down after dark — are longstanding institutions along historic U.S. Route 66 — the old "Mother Road" from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, which still runs not only through Albuequerque but also right past the restaurant.
