Fort Wadsworth NY

A portion of Fort Wadsworth, a 19th-century fortification on the borough of Staten Island, one of five county-level divisions of sprawling New York, New York. The old fort once guarded the Narrows, the main approach from the Atlantic Ocean to New York City. In the distance is the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, a double-decked suspension bridge that connects Staten Island and the borough of Brooklyn. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2018.
