Taos County, New Mexico

Taos County, New Mexico, was formed in 1852 as one of the original nine counties in the New Mexico Territory. Its county seat is Taos. It takes its name from Taos Pueblo, located just a few miles north of Taos. The pueblo was built from about 1000 to 1450 A.D., and Spanish colonists established the town of Taos in about 1615.
