Taos County, New Mexico

Taos County, New Mexico was formed in 1852 as one of the original nine counties in New Mexico Territory. Its county seat is Taos. It takes its name from the Taos Pueblo which is located just a few miles to the north of the Taos. The pueblo was built from about 1000 and 1450 A.D. and the town of Taos was established by Spanish colonists in about 1615. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2021.
