Roosevelt Park, ND - Statue of Theodore Roosevelt

Statue of Theodore Roosevelt as a "Rough Rider" at Roosevelt Park in Minot (pronounced MINE-ott), the principal city in north-central North Dakota. Roosevelt, the 26th president of the United States, gained fame as a swashbuckling colonel in the U.S. Army's 1st Volunteer Cavalry in battles during the Spanish-American War in Cuba. He became a North Dakota institution, too, ranching in its badlands in the 1880s and using the experiences in the West as the inspiration for his establishment of the U.S. National Park system when he became president in 1901.
