Grand Ditch, CO

An aqueduct above the "Grand Ditch," a stretch of the Colorado River, just ten miles from its headwaters in Rocky Mountain National Park. This "ditch" is part of a grand diversion project in which this and other aqueducts send Colorado River water from the Rocky Mountains' Western Slope over the mountains to the Eastern Slope, where 80% of Coloradans live. This section takes its name from the Grand River, the original name of the Colorado. Downstream from here, dozens of streams flow into the Colorado, which runs 1,400 miles to the Gulf of Colorado.
