The original general store at the 1890s Garnet Ghost Town, named for the ruby-colored stone found nearby, is the most intact of many Montana gold-rush towns and camps, high in the Garnet Mountain Range east of Missoula. Populated mostly by miners and their families who moved from played-out placer mines in California and Colorado, this was a true boomtown that itself played out, only to have other "booms" in the years to come.
