The open top of the main tower at Ed Galloway’s Totem Pole Park in the remote crossroads of Foyil in northeast Oklahoma. Built (along with many prized violins and totem poles of many sizes) by folk artist, woodworker, and blacksmith Galloway over the years from 1937 to 1961 on his farm 3.5 miles off historic U.S. Route 66, the totem towers — his tribute to Native Americans — rise as high as nine stories and are featured in most of the road’s guidebooks.
