Swinney Hardware operated in Tulsa's first suburban shopping area, Kendall-Whittier, from 1934 until 2008. Originally opened as a furniture store, its neon sign was a unique sight driving down the original Route 66 alignment in Tulsa, Oklahoma. As big box hardware stores came into town, Swinney's sales dropped precipitously, eventually leading to the store's closure. Today, the sign is preserved in the Stokley Event Center in Tulsa.
