Fayette Historic Park, MI - Lime Kiln

In 1882 it was announced that the company would build a lime kiln and begin manufacturing lime. Limestone quarried from the bluff at Fayette was heated in this kiln to produce lime used in mortar for masonry, chinking for log houses and plaster for interior walls. Excess lime was sold in Escanaba. Photo by Dave Alexander.
