Ellicott City, MD - Enchanted Forest, 1884

The Enchanted Forest was a theme park in Ellicott City, Maryland, that opened in August 1955. Appealing mostly to families with small children, the park had a nursery rhyme theme featuring fairy tale buildings and characters. Track rides were added later, such as the Alice in Wonderland teacup ride, and others.
The park closed in 1985, and it sat neglected behind a chain-link fence for the next decade. In 2004, an agreement was made to allow most of the fairy tale structures and figures to be moved to nearby Clark's Elioak Farm for display and preservation, which began in 2005. Although many of the exhibits have been restored and returned to service at the farm, the Cinderella Castle and the Gingerbread House were demolished. Photo by John Margolies, 1984.
