The old Avalon Theater in McLean, Texas was built in the late 1920s and contained 450 seats. After years of showing movies it was closed by January 1997. Located in the McLean Commercial Historic District its art deco facade was restored by the Route 66 Association of Texas. However, the building had become dilapidated over the years and one of its back walls was collapsing. It was torn down for safety reasons in August 2017. Photo by Kathy Weiser-Alexander.
