Brigantine, NJ - Castle Pier, 1978 - 4

Once, Brigantine Castle was the most popular attraction here on Brigantine Beach in New Jersey. Originally located at 14th and Brigantine Avenue, it was originally known as Seahorse Pier. Carmen Ricci renovated the pier and began to construct the castle in January 1976. It was completed by Memorial Day weekend of that year. It was an immediate success, and visitors flocked to the pier until it was damaged by a storm in 1982. With declining attendance and a $500,000 repair bill, it was closed in 1984. The Brigantine Castle burned to the ground on September 26, 1987, shortly before demolition was about to begin. Photo by John Marjolies, 1978.
