The old Southern Railway Union Depot -- now an Amtrak passenger-rail terminal and home to the Hub City Railroad Museum in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a city in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains roughly midway between Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina. The museum's displays describe the history of the textile and peach industries, the development of railroading in Spartanburg, and the local trainyard and car repair shops that once employed 1,100 people to maintain the Southern Railway’s fleet of railroad cars.
