Phil Kearney Memorial Hall, built in 1887 as the Grand Army of the Republic (or G.A.R.) Hall in Yankton, a small city on the Missouri River and the Nebraska border in the southeast corner of South Dakota. The G.A.R. was a powerful organization of Union veterans of the U.S. Civil War of the 1860s. They named their hall after Kearney, a hero of the Mexican-American and Civil wars who died in battle in the latter conflict. The building is now (as of 2021) the home of the city's art museum.
