This shiny, colorful statue of a "bronco buster" rides high outside the Fort Pierre train depot in Fort Pierre, a small city across the Missouri from the South Dakota capital city of Pierre, both of which are pronounced "Peer" rather than the expected "Pee-AIR." Fort Pierre stands where trapper-businessman Pierre Chouteau, Jr., organized the trading post that started the settlement in the 1880s.
