The Pioneer Motel originally opened in 1941 with this historic neon sign added in 1943. The sign still stands on U.S. Highway 80, and to this day illuminates at night in front of the intact property, which remains as a fine example of early highway motor courts. Image by Jeroen and Maggie Boersma
