Pueblo Union Depot in Pueblo, Colorado, designed by architect Frank V. Newell and built by Puebloans Henry Thatcher and Mahlon Thatcher in the Richardsonian Romanesque style in 1889-1890. Initially the station was served by the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the Colorado & Southern Railway (which was acquired by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in 1908), the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and the Chicago Rock Island & Pacific Railroad. The 1889 Sanborn Insurance Map stated that the Depot’s main building housed an emigrant’s waiting room, a baggage room, toilet room, ladies' waiting room, gentlemen’s waiting room, central hall, lunch and dining hall, kitchen with pantry, laundry, barber shop, gentlemen’s toilet, and storage rooms. A separate building to the north was the freight express office. As of the date of this image in 2015, the Union Pacific Railroad and the BNSF Railroad share use of the tracks, the depot is privately owned, and it is being converted into loft apartments. Regular passenger train service no longer exists, but proposals include creating a Front Range Commuter Rail, which would provide service to Denver and Colorado Springs.
