Elk City, OK - National Route 66 Museum - Kachina

A huge kachina doll figure with a name — Myrtle — at the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City, Oklahoma, along the historic “Mother Road” that ran (and still does in limited stretchs) from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. This is three museums in one: a historic Old Town of vintage buildings, a farm and ranch life section, and a transportation exhibit. Moved from Queenan’s Trading Post outside of town, Myrtle has greeted guests along the “Mother Road” since 1962. Photo by Carol Highsmith, 2020.
