Fort Griffin, TX - Masonic Hall

The restored masonic lodge hall at the Fort Griffin, Texas townsite, which the townspeople and cattle ranchers who lived there called "The Flat," near the U.S. Army's frontier post of Fort Griffin that protected it in the 1860s in what is now Shackelford County, Texas. The building's lower floor was used as a meeting hall, church sanctuary, and schoolroom. The town was an important watering and supply point along the so-called "Western Cattle Trail" up to Dodge City, Kansas. Photo by Carol Highsmith.
