Street sign for Peters Brothers "Texas Hat" shop in Fort Worth, Texas. The company was founded by Jim and Tom Peters in 1911. They were Greek immigrants who began their business shining shoes in Waco, Texas, during the "Cotton Palace Celebration." With their savings of $600, the brothers moved to Fort Worth, purchased a a small, wooden building and opened another shoeshine parlor. In addition to shining shoes, they operated a hat-renovation department. (As a child Tom Peters had dyed hats in Greece.) In 1921 Tom left Fort Worth to work for John B. Stetson in Philadelphia, PA.
