Galveston, TX - Moody Mansion

The Moody Mansion, a restored, 28,000 square-foot, four-story structure originally completed in 1895 in Galveston, Texas.

The house was the home of William Lewis Moody Jr. (January 25, 1865 – July 21, 1954), an American financier and entrepreneur who founded a private bank, an insurance company, and one of the largest charitable foundations in the United States. The house, made of limestone and brick, was built between 1893 and 1895 and designed by William H. Tyndall. The mansion features handcarved wood, stained glass
, coffered ceilings and Moody family heirlooms.

The house remained home to Moody family members until 1986. It became a house museum whose rooms are filled with the furnishings and personal effects of the family. Photo by Carol Highsmith.
