Filled with wide-open spaces, rugged plateaus, and desert mountains, this region also includes Big Bend Country, an area of extremes. At Big Bend, are the only mountains in the Lone Star State. Here, the desert is hot and dry, but the nights can get very cool, even though it so far south. The Rio Grande River runs along the southern part of this region, forming the border between
Texas and Mexico. This area includes the El Paso, the
Pecos Trail,
Big Bend National Park, and several
ghost towns.
